Hello everyone,

This group seems like a good place to start my .NET experience. I recently graduated with a BS in comp sci. with an emphasis in applied data processing. I have been working some bs analyst job which is pretty much just copying and pasting errors into chat channels. That job got sent to India. I am slowly learning that they didnt teach me anything in college. Why did I learn the assembly language again? Or JCL? They teach us Assembly language and not .NET. What a joke. Maybe I should have gone to a 2 year technical school rather than a university. I was contacted by a highly respected IT recruiting firm and my scores for their placements in C++ and java were pretty good. One of the recruiters told me it would be a good idea to teach myself .NET rather than go into C or java as I guess demand for .NET developers is blowing up. They are giving me 2 months to learn .NET (VB, C# and ASP) so they can begin marketing me.

Now to my questions....
1)Where do I start? More spec. which should I learn first VB.NET or C#.NET?
2)I have a very basic understanding of .NET and know that no language is more beneficial than others but I was thinking about starting with VB as I have at least simple knowledge of the original VB.
3)Can someone briefly tell me how ASP.NET interacts with VB and C# to create web services???? I dont even know what ASP is....

Oh and someone who has been in the .NET field for some time gave me 4 Microsoft eLearning Books on cd that are used to get Microsoft certified....
1)MCAD/MCSD Self-Paced Training Kit: Developing XML Web Services and Server Components with Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft Visual C# .NET
2)MCAD/MCSD Self-Paced Training Kit: Developing Windows-Based Applications with Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft Visual C# .NET, Second Ed
3)MCSD Self-Paced Training Kit: Analyzing Requirements and Defining Microsoft .NET Solution Architectures, Exam 70-300
4)MCAD/MCSD Self-Paced Training Kit: Developing Web Applications with Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft Visual C# .NET, Second Edition

Should I start off with any of these books as my starting point to VB???? or are there better books anyone knows of to go with???? im jobless right now so if anyone knows of online tutorial sites that would be even better???? but basically im willing to spend the cash if there are comprehensive and great books out there for (VB/C#/ASP.)

thanks in advance....

I was thinking of starting off with book #2)MCAD/MCSD Self-Paced Training Kit: Developing Windows-Based Applications with Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft Visual C# .NET, Second Ed

then #4)MCAD/MCSD Self-Paced Training Kit: Developing Web Applications with Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft Visual C# .NET, Second Edition

then #1)MCAD/MCSD Self-Paced Training Kit: Developing XML Web Services and Server Components with Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft Visual C# .NET

and finally #3)MCSD Self-Paced Training Kit: Analyzing Requirements and Defining Microsoft .NET Solution Architectures, Exam 70-300
