PHP 5.3 Released

The PHP development team has released PHP 5.3.0. This new release has some major improvements and includes a large number of new features.
Some of the key new features include: namespaces, late static binding, closures, optional garbage collection for cyclic references and much more.
For users upgrading from PHP 5.2 there is a migration guide available, detailing the changes between those releases and PHP 5.3.

Sun: Java will be free this year

Following the announcement of Sun's plans to make Java free and open under the General Public License (GPL) at JavaOne 2006, there have been a few struggles on the path to open source. At the time of the OpenJDK release in May last year, around five percent of the code--the portion not owned by Sun--was still closed.
Yahoo! ASTRA 1.2 Now Available

Yahoo! fired out a new update to the Yahoo! Astra libraries for Flash, Flex and ActionScript, ASTRA 1.2. This release includes updates to the Flash components, the removal of the Flex Maps hack from the Web APIs library (use the new Yahoo! Maps AS3 API instead), and the addition of the new Astra Utilities library.
ASTRA is Yahoo! ActionScript Toolkit for Rich Applications, a collection of Flash and Flex components, code libraries, toolkits and utilities developed for ActionScript developers.Aptana to Launch Cloud Platform

Aptana have announced their Cloud initiative, a platform-as-a-service offering for developers to build Web applications based on open-source technology.
"Aptana's mission is to be the leading provider of tools and infrastructure for Web developers who use scripting languages," said Kevin Hakman, director of product marketing at Aptana.
Ext JS 2.1 Released

Ext JS is a cross-browser JavaScript library for building rich internet applications.
